The largest Gothic- Punk Post-Punk Festival in the world selects Lisbon, Portugal for 2008!
Drop Dead Festival, the largest deathrock, gothic punk music festival in the world hits Lisbon, Portugal in 2008. Lisbon was chosen as the location for the festival in 2008 for its outstanding beauty, great music and art atmosphere, an ideal location connecting the West and Europe. The festival will take place over 5 days, through October 8-12 and will include the best new and the established acts of the gothic, batcave, deathrock, punk, wave, psychobilly, and horror related genres of music.
Drop Dead Festival started 6 years ago in the legendary New York City club CBGBs. Initially filling a void for USA underground music festivals, Drop Dead quickly became the world’s biggest and most important festival championing an eclectic collection of independent gothic punk, post punk and weird wave music, moving to Europe in 2007. With more press attention and more fans flying in from all over the world, the festival grew to be a 5 day event which included multiple clubs and an international lineup of bands, as well as international DJs and promoters. One of the biggest ongoing goals of the festival is to actively help, create and support the existing international DIY network of clubs, bookers, bands and DJ’s.
Drop Dead Festival has hosted hundreds of the best, brightest and most interesting new and old bands including German diva Nina Hagen, new wave shining stars Lene Lovich and Mona Mur, UK’s psychobillys legends The Quakes and Coffin Nails, gothic legends Sex Gang Children and Ausgang, and anarcho punk originals Rubella Ballet. The festival is also famous for special events like a DIY punk jacket showcase, movie screenings such as the cult classic Forbidden Zone (complete with question and answers with director Richard Elfman), giveaways from underground artists and companies, a large vending bazaar, and much more.
For most fans attending the Drop Dead Festival every year from every corner of the world, this is not just the place to discover music and meet friends; it’s the best, craziest party of the year.
Although Drop Dead Festival is an international event, this year’s unique location is a perfect chance to immerse in local music and attractions. The festival kicks off on October 8 right outside of Lisbon at one of Portugal’s world famous beaches, returns to Lisbon for October 9, 10, 11, and finishes at the beach on October 12. Festival organizers are collaborating with the local music production team Lisbon Decay and will also showcase music from Portugal and Spain throughout the festival. This event will give the rest of the world a wonderful opportunity to enjoy and learn about Portugal as well as experience its rich musical culture.

Le Drop Dead Festival a commencé il y a 6 ans au CBGBs, le légendaire club New Yorkais. Le Drop Dead Festival a accueilli des centaines de groupes parmis les meilleurs, les plus brillants et les plus intéressants, nouveaux venus ou confirmés. El festival Drop Dead, el mayor festival musical de deathrock, gothic punk en el mundo aterriza en Lisboa, Portugal, el 2008. Lisboa fue elegida como sede del festival en el 2008 por su excepcional belleza, una atmósfera artística y música genial, una localización ideal que conecta el Oeste con Europa. El festival tendrá lugar durante 5 días, del 8 al 12 de Octubre e incluirá las últimas y clásicas actuaciones de géneros musicales que recorrerán desde el gothic, batcave, deathrock, punk, wave, psychobilly hasta el horror.
El festival Drop Dead empezó hace 6 años en el legendario club de Nueva York CBGB. Al principio, formaba parte de uno de tantos festivales de música underground de EE.UU., no obstante Drop Dead empezó rápidamente a convertirse en el festival más importante en defensa de una ecléctica colección de música independiente de gothic punk, post punk y sonidos raros de wave; trasladándose a Europa en el 2007. Con más atención por parte de la prensa y más fans llegando desde diferentes puntos del planeta, el festival creció hasta ser un evento de 4 días de duración que incluye multitud de clubes y una alineación de bandas internacionales, así como DJ's y promotores internacionales. Uno de los mayores logros que el festival pretende conseguir es ayudar, crear y apoyar activamente la existente red internacional de clubes, patrocinadores, bandas y DJ's creada por los participantes.
El festival Drop Dead ha acogido cientos de las mejores, más brillantes, interesantes bandas actuales y clásicas incluyendo a la diva germana Nina Hagen, las brillantes estrellas de new-wave Lene Lovich y Mona Mur, las leyendas inglesas del psychobilly Batmobile y Coffin Nails, leyendas del gothic como Sex Gang Children y Ausgang, y el original anarco-punk de Rubella Ballet. Drop Dead festivāls, kas ir lielākais dedroka un gotiskā pankroka mūzikas festivāls pasaulē, šogad norisināsies Portugāles galvaspilsētā Lisabonā. Vietas izvēli noteica pilsētas neatkārtojamais skaistums, lieliskā mākslas un mūzikas atmosfēra, kas tajā valda, kā arī lokācijas ziņā labākā vieta pulcējot cilvēkus gan no Amerikas, gan Eiropas. Tas norisināsies piecas dienas, no 8. līdz 12. oktobrim, un prezentēs labākās jaunās un jau par atzītām vērtībām kļuvušās grupas un projektus no dažādiem mūzikas stiliem, kā tradicionālā gotika, batcave, deathrck, punk, wave, psychobilly, horror.
Drop Dead festivāls aizsākās pirms 6 gadiem leģendārājā Ņujorkas klubā VBGBs. Sākotnēji festivāls aizpildīja tukšo vietu tumšās andergraunda mūzikas pasākumu norisē Amerikā, bet jau drīz vien nostabilizējās kā svarīgākais un lielākais festivāls, kas apvieno dažādu eklektisku mūzikas stilu grupas sākot no gotikas, beidzot ar savādu wave mūziku. 2007. gadā tas pirmo reizi norisinājās Eiropā, Čehijas galvaspilsētā Prāgā. Tajā piedalījās grupas un diskžokeji no visas pasaules, pulcējot lielu daudzumu šīs mūzikas atbalstītājus vienviet. Šī festivāla lielākais vadmotīvs ir atbalstīt DIY kustību, grupas, Djus, klubus, kas tajā iesaistīti.
Festivāls gadu gaitā ir spējis pulcēt ļoti daudzas jaunās grupas, kā arī vienas no slavenākajām vecajām grupām, kā vācu Nina Hagen, new wave zvaigznes Lene Lovich un Mona Mur, Apvienotās Karalistes psychobilly leģendas The Quakes un Coffin Nails, gotiskās mūzikas veterānus Sex Gang Children un Ausgang un anarcho punk pārstāvjus Rubella Ballet. O Drop Dead Festival – o maior evento no mundo dos géneros musicais deathrock, gótico, punk e postpunk – vai ter lugar em Lisboa, no próximo mês de Outubro. Lisboa foi a cidade escolhida para acolher este festival em 2008 dada a sua localização geográfica privilegiada; a beleza intrínseca da cidade e, também, a sua atmosfera cosmopolita, bastante propícia à expressão artística e musical. O festival desenrola-se ao longo de 5 dias (de 8 a 12 de Outubro), envolvendo algumas das melhores propostas musicais já estabelecidas ou em fase de arranque, representativas de diversos géneros musicais tais como gótico, batcave, deathrock, punk, wave, psychobilly, postpunk, etc.
O Drop Dead Festival começou há 6 anos no lendário clube CBGBs, de Nova Iorque. No início, o Drop Dead veio preencher um vazio nos EUA em termos de festivais de música alternativa. Porém, tornou-se muito rapidamente na maior e mais importante referência mundial do género, proporcionando ao longo dos anos programas bastante diversificados ao nível musical. Em 2007, o festival deslocou-se à Europa pela primeira vez (Praga, na República Checa). Face ao crescente interesse dos media e a um número muito maior de fãs que se deslocam das mais variadas localizações, o festival cresceu e passou a desenrolar-se ao longo de 5 dias, contando com várias venues e uma vasta selecção de bandas, DJs internacionais e outros promotores. Um dos principais objectivos do festival consiste no apoio e na criação de redes internacionais DIY (do it yourselfi) de clubes, bandas, DJs e promotores.
O Drop Dead Festival acolheu ao longo da sua história dezenas de bandas novas e outras menos recentes, tais como a diva alemã Nina Hagen; as estrelas brilhantes do new wave, Lene Lovich e Mona Mur; as lendas britânicas do psychobilly, The Quakes e Coffin Nails; as lendas do postpunk tais como os Sex Gang Children e Ausgang e mesmo a originalidade do anarcho punk dos Rubella Ballet. Just 2 little things:
-i woudl erase the "heuer" at the beginning. I don`t know if that`s customary in Austria, but you won´t see that on official german press releases. Maybe just replace it with "dieses Jahr"
-Klubs. Aren`t they supposed to be written "Clubs" or is that as well common in Austria.

Med stor pressedækning og fans der fløj til fra hele verden, voksede Drop Dead til en fem dage stor festival, som inkluderede flere forskellige spillesteder og et internationalt line-up af bands og kunstnere, såvel som internationale DJs og promotere. El festival Drop Dead, el mayor festival musical de deathrock, gothic punk en el mundo aterriza en Lisboa, Portugal, el 2008. Lisboa fue elegida como sede del festival en el 2008 por su excepcional belleza, una atmósfera artística y música genial, una localización ideal que conecta el Oeste con Europa. El festival tendrá lugar durante 5 días, del 8 al 12 de Octubre e incluirá las últimas y clásicas actuaciones de géneros musicales que recorrerán desde el gothic, batcave, deathrock, punk, wave, psychobilly hasta el horror.
El festival Drop Dead empezó hace 6 años en el legendario club de Nueva York CBGB. Al principio, formaba parte de uno de tantos festivales de música underground de EE.UU., no obstante Drop Dead empezó rápidamente a convertirse en el festival más importante en defensa de una ecléctica colección de música independiente de gothic punk, post punk y sonidos raros de wave; trasladándose a Europa en el 2007. Con más atención por parte de la prensa y más fans llegando desde diferentes puntos del planeta, el festival creció hasta ser un evento de 4 días de duración que incluye multitud de clubes y una alineación de bandas internacionales, así como DJ's y promotores internacionales. Uno de los mayores logros que el festival pretende conseguir es ayudar, crear y apoyar activamente la existente red internacional de clubes, patrocinadores, bandas y DJ's creada por los participantes.
