X-posted from the Deathrock.com forum
I'm posting links to the pictures rather than directly posting images to save on bandwidth and load time.

Me posing with my friends in 13th Moon (plus singer's girlfriend). There's a castle up there in the background, too! My hair looked nappy because it had lots of glue in it at the time. I cut it after the second night and now I have sort of a gothic mullet.

On the bus!
A quick snap of the lovely folks on board the bus bound for the beach.
Click
On the beach!
Several deathrockers wading into the water. The waves were actually rather big out at sea as it was a very windy day. I was impressed with how well a few of the deathhawks stood up to the wind!
Click
Phantom Vision performing.
This was one of the surprise best performances of the festival. Either my camera's really dirty, or those orbs are the result of a lot of spooky spiritual activity!
Click
A random crowd shot at the beach.
This was during the Phantom Vision set. It's hard to tell in this photo, but everyone past bald spot-ponytail-backpack dude was going absolutely nuts thrashing around.
Click
Cinema Strange performing at the Hula Hula Bar.
I guess I was expecting more from the performance, but it was actually a tad bit prosaic. I guess their music isn't really all that energetic in the first place, though. Still, it wasn't a bad show.
Click
Cinema Strange again.
Click
Outside the second venue.
OpheliasDeath = Batos. AWESOME!!!
Click
Random crowd shot in the second venue during Mutant Transmissions showcase.
My roommate, Yohei, is to the right with his arms folded.
Click
The Sixteens performing.
The flash is turned off to give a better sense of the lighting. Picture taken from the first floor. Kristen recognized me from their Seattle show! <3
Click
13th Moon taking the stage.
One of the most energetic performances of the whole festival. People were going absolutely nuts and bopping around!
Click
13th Moon performing.
One characteristic of most Japanese goth, both old-school and new-school, is that it has a very large theatrical element in the mix. Here, Naohiro is getting ready to throw roses into the crowd.
Click
Random crowd shot at the third venue for the 4th and 5th nights.
Everyone's dancing to a DJ set between bands.
Click
Squishy Squid performing.
They were a lot of fun and got the crowd grooving. Eleonore is to the far right on second bass.
Click
Andreas, Mark Splatter, and me.
Andreas was a German guy we all met. I think he might have been Techbat's roommate? I could be wrong. He never smiles for the camera.
Click
Another random crowd shot during a live band.
This should give a rough idea of how hot the venue was, with everyone's sweat glistening in the flash. Mark Splatter can be seen way at the top, Lakini Malich is further to the left. Yohei and a member of Cinema Strange can also be seen.
Click
Another random crowd shot during a DJ set between live bands.
Cityrocker at the booth, spinning an interesting set of songs.
Click
Gothic twins!
Brown hair (OpheliasDeath) and red hair (Death) together. A member of Cinema Strange lurks in the background.
Click
I just had to get my picture with them! I rarely smile for pictures.
Click
Not gothic twins!
BFF, a kooshball (Cityrocker) and a drowned porcupine (Squiggles) pose with a Swiss(?) DJ.
Just about everyone and their mothers probably have tons of photos of UK Decay performing already, so instead I'm just going to post a couple of Abbo butt-shots.

Click
Oh, and Eddie Branch and stand-in for Steve Harle (RIP).

Here are some pics in reverse. Feel free to steal them. I have higher resolution if anyone wants specific ones.
http://s242.photobucket.com/albums/ff79/fruitbat1313/Lisbon/?albumview=slideshow
Tuesday - Landed shortly after 7am, well ahead of schedule. Wandered around aimlessly and checked in around noon. Took a nap til 1:30 then went over to meet the group to go to Sintra. I think we had 17 or so in the group. Walking to the train station rain started pouring. We hit an umbrella shop and most everyone bought one, though the rain stopped by the time we got to Sintra. Very scenic. Pictures speak for themselves. It was great to be able to wander around and not worry about being back at a specific time or missing anything.
Wednesday - Wandered around on the beach and enjoyed a Long Island Ice Tea, well except I forgot how much I hate rum!! Enjoyed Birth and Deadfly. I got quite chilly once the alcohol wore off.
Thursday - Back to the beach. I really enjoyed most all these bands. Probaby my favorite day overall, not just music but in general.
Friday - Another great lineup of bands. Was awesome to see Kitchen especially. Good show even without a lead guitar. Most of this night was a blur. I was absolutely smashed. Seriously. Sat on the steps of this church(?) with a group drinking a bottle of wine while waiting for the tram, took a pic of the group, and lost my camera before getting to the club. After returning we walked past the hostel in search of food and I walked up to the steps to find my camera still sitting there, roughly 10 hours later. That was amazing.
Saturday - Another really drunk night but not quite as bad. Lots of good bands.
Sunday - Was really starting to feel exhausted. Enjoyed Lene Lovich most out of today's lineup. Had to leave early to get to the airport. Was sad to leave all my new friends.
Monday - Ran into Kitchen and the Plastic Spoons at the airport. Talked a bit more before I left. Got home around 8:30pm, luggage got home on Wednesday morning. The hair dryer I bought in Lisbon was missing as well as the new bottle of hair spray I bought just before the trip. I was going to throw the hair spray away anyway as it did not work, at all. Have not noticed anything else missing, so far anyway.
All in all it was an amazing trip. I really really appreciate the hard work and effort that went into planning and putting this together and thanks to everyone involved. I got to meet alot of cool people. Wish I had met more but time went by all too quickly. |

Eep, where did those img tags come from? Can't be loading images and wasting bandwidth everytime someone clicks this thread. ImageCave has limits, after all. |

After some sorting (originally 217, now 189) I was to lazy to edit and resize all of them and just uploaded them to myspace...
Unfortunately my N95 doesn't come really close to my real camera, espacially in the dark and when a fast AF is needed, so the Sintra and Lisbon pics are quite better than the concert pics...
Some pics are marked with "Band?"... so if you can figure out which band is on the pic, feel free to leave a comment.

I stole this photo, the rest are mine, i think
Me and Ines made those signs so people can find Hula Hula club, i think it wasn't so hard to find it after all but most of these signs ended up some place else with many amusing photos showing up on the net
Mutant Transmissions Showcase October 10 and Santiago. Thanks to Mia, Jana, me and Ines, margarita and Maria and Dan for all the stars
This was our home away from home and place for all the subdued band10 am after parties, well until we moved it into one of the rooms.....
There were lots of drinking, but i usually started my nights with a triple bailies to numb some of the sound problems pain.
this is how it all started October 8 hula Hula Club, chaos under the stars
Birth - October 8 Hula Hula Club

Cheers Polina, it's fine, saved me some hassle 'cos I don't think you can link to Facesmash photos like that. Only complaint is, you could've put them in order and included my hilarious captions!
Lovely photos! |
